All the best bits in a new retro design.
Ian Thompson
I was already wishlisting a few of the TR Retro arcade-level joystick designs, but as soon as this Spectrum Anniversary Edition was announced it was 'the one'. Intended to partner a ZX Spectrum Next KS3, I wanted the peripherals to hark back to my OG 48K, and this joystick does that perfectly! The wireless version, with DB9 Bluetooth adapter, was my only nod to modernity - no need to change anything else about it in my opinion. It's an arcade-quality item in all areas, really sturdy, great feel to the buttons and stick, strong build and steady on the desktop. 'Arcade' to me means 'robust', but also imagine directly transferring the controls from an 80's Pacman machine, or Galaxians table-top game. That means 'chunky' as well. For an idea of size, since it's difficult to gauge from photos, the joystick ️ is about A5 and the trackball is between A5 and a standard postcard over the base.
